Your Product Cheat Sheet

The Best of 48 - 36 - 6 - 3

This week, I have created a cheat sheet to my best content from 2021. You can find links to highlights from the 48 videos, 36 blog posts, 6 conferences, and 3 podcasts that I created last year.

As we kick off the new year, you can help support my work in 2022 in two ways:

  1. Subscribing and sharing my newsletter with a friend

  2. Telling me more about what content you’d like to see

I love sharing what I’ve learned and trying out new things, and look forward to continuing to create this year. Thank you for your support!

48 videos

I experimented with new forms of content this year, with my Friday Flashes video series and accompanying Productive Product Manager journal. Each video introduces a product-focused topic of reflection for the week and ties back to one of the ten disciplines in the Product Decagon. I took the weekly reflection prompts, combined them with pages for weekly review, and created the Productive Product Manager to provide a guided journal for those that prefer pen and paper.

I’ve published 48 one-minute Friday Flashes videos so far, and have 4 more videos coming in the next month to round out this 52 week series. Although viewership numbers are still low, it’s fulfilling to receive feedback like these from product managers that are getting value out of them:

“I like your idea about Friday flashes and it helps me to think about topics which I wouldn’t have reflected before.”

36 blog posts

I started writing at the start of the pandemic in 2020 and kept it up with 36 more posts over this past year. It was exciting to see my stories reach people from 60 countries around the world, nurture my newsletter subscribers from a tiny audience into a still small but growing audience, and even have a few of my articles organically rank in the top 10 search results on Google.

6 conferences

After introducing the Product Decagon framework in 2020, I focused on sharing the Product Decagon framework with more audiences this year. I gave keynotes about the Product Decagon at the Prow, INDUSTRY, and Women Transforming Technology Conferences. I also spoke on panels about stakeholder management at the UXDX Conference and shared product management learnings at Apptentive’s Coffee with PM’s. Product School loved my talk “So Easy a Toddler Can Do It” and hosted another LinkedIn Live to share the talk with the community who may have missed the original broadcast.

3 podcasts

Podcasting was another first for me this year. Even though I didn’t start my own podcast, I had the opportunity to be a guest on three different podcasts. I especially loved helping my friend, Parul Goel, kick off her Unseen Battles podcast as the guest on her very first episode. Regardless, after two years of the pandemic and working from home, it was a treat to be able to talk shop with other product leaders.
